Synopsis of The Fault In Our Star (2014)

'The Fault in Our Stars'

Begins with the story of a young woman named Hazel Grace. He is a person who survives a cancer attack that makes his lungs unable to walk normally. His parents suggested that Hazel be able to go to the Support Group.


    One day at the Support Group, Hazel met a young man who stole his attention. Both are attracted to each other. The young man was named 
Augustus Waters. Hazel and Augustus talked to each other about many things.

     Hazel gave Augustus his favorite book, An Imperial Affliction. Both of them were finally carried away with the flow of the book and were very curious about how the story ended from the book. The book does have a very hanging ending. Because of his curiosity, Augustus made a plan so that Hazel could contact the author of his book via email. In the morning, Hazel gets a reply email which is an invitation so she can go to Amsterdam to discuss the end of her book.

      Another story, good friend Augustus and Hazel named Isaac had to lose their eyes due to cancer. He was already free from cancer, but had to lose his favorite girlfriend, Monica. Monica doesn't want to date a blind man.

    Back in the love story of Augustus and Hazel, Augustus surprises Hazel that he still has a "Request" (A charitable organization will grant a request for a child with cancer). He used his request to take him with Hazel to Amsterdam to meet Peter Van Houten (author of the book An Imperial Affliction). Hazel was very happy with the news, but she needed to convince the doctor and her parents about her health condition.

    With a difficult struggle, they were finally able to go to Amsterdam accompanied by Mrs. Hazel. In Amsterdam, Hazel and Augustus get an unforgettable experience. They get beautiful and romantic moments there. But everything changed when they met Peter Van Houten. Peter Van Houten who is an alcoholic did not give a good response to all of Hazel's questions. An angry Hazel decided to leave Peter's house. However, Peter's assistant named Lidewij brought Hazel and Augustus to go around in Amsterdam. They went to visit Anne Frank's House, which was the first place Hazel and Augustus kissed.

     The next day, Augustus spoke to Hazel about his illness. He said that the cancer returned to attack his body. This is bad news before their return to America. Arriving in America, Augustus immediately took medication for his cancer and realized that he did not have much time left. Amid this sadness, Augustus asked Isaac and Hazel to read his funeral speech at the church.

      When Augustus died, Hazel was very shocked and sad. He realized that not only was he sad over the death of Augustus, but his parents were the ones who were most sad. So, at his funeral he gave a speech that was different from before. In the funeral, he was shocked by the arrival of Peter Van Houten. Hazel talked to him and realized that the story of An Imperial Affliction was the story of Peter's daughter who died of cancer.

       A few days after the funeral, Isaac told Hazel that Augustus had written something before he died. Hazel finally tried to find Augustus's last writing, he hoped it was an alternative to the end of the story of An Imperial Affliction that he really wanted. He also realized that his mother took the class to become the leader of the Support Group, so that after he died his parents would have another life.
